Social Services

Caring for the Elderly

In 2016, Sik Sik Yuen launched a five-year “Humanitarian Community Caring Project for the Elderly” mainly to provide appropriate services for elders who lived alone and lacked support. This includes support for elders’ basic living needs and care for their physical and mental health. Social workers from various centres for the elderly assisted in the development of the project and followed up on cases. Since the program started, the number of partner organizations has increased from 12 to 30 and the program has served more than 500 elders. More than 500 volunteers provided help under this program and nearly 10,000 visits and consolation calls have been made.

In the summit this year, various partner organizations were invited to review the service situation of 2018-19 and to look forward to future developments. Mr. Hui Wai-kwong, the Chief Staff Officer of the Auxiliary Medical Service at that time shared the service efforts of the Auxiliary Medical Service Cadet Corps at 12 Sik Sik Yuen service units over the past year.

At the meeting, letters of appointment were presented to two professional advisors who joined the project recently, Mr. Hui Wai-kwong and Mr. Ng Ah-ming, as well as three supporting organizations, including the Hong Kong Prostate Foundation, Cercis Music Association, and New Youth Energy HK. The supporting organizations of this project range from government departments, public utilities, professional groups, higher education institutions, districts and uniformed groups, foundations and business circles, and provide collaborative services such as volunteer visits, professional consultations, case referrals and evaluations, health services, and volunteer training.
