To boost precautionary eye-care and to strengthen grassroots’ understanding to prevent blindness among the needy, an optometry centre (Wong Tai Sin Teaching and Learning Centre) is set up to provide comprehensive eye-care services to the public as well as a platform for student optometrists to serve the community and gain clinical experience.
The Centre is run by registered optometrists from PolyU with professional guidelines from the School of Optometry. The students from the School also assist in providing eye-care services. Target recipients of the service is needy children and the elderly as well as the low-income group in society. The Centre was opened at the Yuen’s Social Services Complex in Wong Tai Sin in January, 2009.
To cope with the special needs of the underprivileged, further subsidies are provided to the low-income users.
Our Services
Optometric Eye Care Service
The Centre provides comprehensive eye care services to patients, including assessment of vision, measurement of refractive error, assessment of coordination between the two eyes, evaluation of ocular health, diagnosis and management of visual conditions services.
The visual rehabilitation service has been launched since August 2011. The centre offers comprehensive low vision evaluation and prescription of low vision devices to enhance remaining vision of people with visual impairment so as to improve their quality of life.
